William Brooks Obituary

William “Bill” Brooks, was born on March 10, 1942 in Lugoff, SC to the late Theodore Brooks and Rosetta “Murphy” Brooks.

 

On Monday, January 14, 2019, Bill departed this life.

 

Bill was educated in the Kershaw County Public School System.   As a young man Bill enjoyed participating in sports and was well known for his athletic pursuits.   He was renowned for swimming across the Wateree River and for having played semi-pro baseball.

 

Bill’s love for sports continued throughout his life. When Bill could no longer play sports, he enjoyed watching and talking about sports.   He was a Yankee’s fan, Giants and Cavalier’s fan when LeBron played there..

 

He was a student of Black History and it was his dream to walk over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama.  He was proud to share stories of having participated in the March on Washington in 1963.

 

A kind and gentle man, Bill loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with them and talking to them.   He was the family storyteller and family comedian.

 

Bill was predeceassed by his eldest brother, Theodore (Alice Hardy Brooks); and sisters Deborah Brooks and Janet Brooks Cumberbatch.

 

Bill will be sadly missed by the love of his life, his best friend and life partner, Ruby Dawson.   His one and only child, his beloved Tamika Robinson and his three grandchildren (Tatyana Simmons; Tyshawn Simmons, Rayzier Golson.

 

He also leaves to cherish many fond memories, his brothers, Ben (Betty) Brooks of South Carolina; Willie “Uzell” (Judy) Brooks of Brooklyn, NY; Ralph ( Annis) Brooks of Fort Lauderdale,  Florida; his sisters, Dorothy (late Curtis Lee) Lee and Blanche Hubbard and a host of nieces, nephews, relative and friends.
